Hotel owners upset at Itanagar police, demands apology

ITANAGAR, Aug 2: Days after city police revealed the names of some hotels which according to them were involved in sex trade, the All Arunachal Hotel, Resort, Restaurant and Bar Association (AAHRRBA) on Wednesday castigated the police for random arrests of hotel managers and making the names of hotels public without concrete evidences. After series of raids, the city police had arrested 15 alleged sex workers recently from hotels.
In a Press conference held here, AAHRRHA President Tagru Ponung condemned the police for randomly arresting managers for allegedly being linked with the sex racket.
Ponung also condemned the district administration for sealing Bars in the pretext of controlling drunken driving.
The AAHRRHA claimed that the police have tarnished the names of some of the hotels which have clean images by naming them in their statements.
Condemning the police for what it termed as reckless and damaging statement, the association claimed that Itafort and Kameng hotels were neither raided by police nor inspected by police.
"Among the hotels, named by the police, Kameng and Itafort hotels were neither raided nor inspected but police has deliberately tarnished the images of the hotels", said General Secretary AAHRRHA Takam Tayam. Tayam further questioned the authenticity of police claims and condemned the police for recklessly naming the hotels in local media.
"My hotel is almost three decades old, now its reputation is on line. Who will pay for the damage done to us" questioned Kameng Hotel Proprietor Tenzin Deru while denying that hotel was raided by police.
Seeking justice from the authority, Deru also demanded an apology from the police for deliberately mentioning the hotel's name fearing that it would have huge impact on its business and reputation.
The district administration and the police have been cracking down on bars by asking them to close by 10.30 PM to control drink related accidents and crimes rate.
The association is aggrieved by District Administration's latest decree terming bars and the hotels as soft target.
"We are ready to comply with the DA order but it should implement the order effectively and conduct regular checking to control drunken driving regularly so that customers do not force the bar owners to sell alcohol after stipulated time is over" said Jumi Bagra the president of Capital Complex License holders Bar Association.
The association asked the district administration to allow the owners to keep the bars open till 12 midnight.

The strong rebuttal came after Chinese foreign ministry issued a document today, saying the number of Indian troops was 40 by end of July from 400 in June.
"Over 400 people at one point, have put up three tents and advanced over 180 metres into the Chinese territory. As of the end of July, there were still over 40 Indian border troops and one bulldozer illegally staying in the Chinese territory," the document said.
Countering Chines contention, sources here maintained that around 350 Indian Army personnel have been in Dokalam for last six weeks after China tried to build a road in the area, triggering the standoff.
China also said that it has conveyed its firm stand to India that it must take "concrete actions" by immediately pulling back troops from Dokalam with "no strings attached" to resolve the current standoff.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj last month had said that both sides should first pull back their troops for any talks to take place.
India also conveyed to the Chinese government that the road construction would represent a significant change of status quo with serious security implications for it.
National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval was in Beijing last month to attend the BRICS NSAs meeting.
During the visit, Doval held bilateral meeting with State Councillor Yang Jiechi. Doval and Yang are also Special Representatives of the boundary talks between the two nations.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry said during his talks with Doval, Yang "urged India to respect China's territorial sovereignty, the international law and the basic rules governing international relations and immediately pull back the trespassing India border troops to the Indian side of the boundary with no strings attached. Ering calls for skill mapping
ITANAGAR, Aug 2: Member of Parliament Ninong Ering underscored the importance of comprehensive skill mapping of each state under Skill Development Programme.
Raising supplementary question in the Parliament on Skill Development in North Eastern Region, Ering said it is still unclear what type of skill will be developed in youths under this programme.
"Skill mapping encompasses the harnessing of traditional knowledge of a particular area and developing it into a skill which can be redesigned as a source of employment. Such skill mapping would ensure meaningful employment of the local youths, preventing them from migrating to urban areas, Ering said.
He questioned whether the government is planning for skill mapping of different regions.
ALSYA calls off bandh

Miscreants set fire to granary

DAPORIJO, Aug 2: A granary was allegedly set on fire by some unidentified miscreants at Kan Rijo on Tuesday night.
Around 30 quintals of rice stock and some household items were damaged in the fire. The granary was attached to the dwelling house of the owner.
An FIR has been lodged at Dumporijo Police Station against the miscreants.
CM assures Tadin villagers, orgs extends help
ITANAGAR, Aug 2: Chief Minister Pema Khandu has assured that all measures are being taken to rehabilitate and compensate the loss suffered by the people of Tadin village in West Siang. On Tuesday, 37 houses including granaries, rice mills and a community hall were reduced to ashes.
The administration have been issued necessary instructions to take up immediate relief activities and make assessment of all the losses, he informed.
Khandu appealed all sections of the society to rise to the occasion as they always did to help the unfortunate villagers through contributions in cash and kind.
"Our people have always come out openly to help the less fortunate ones and victims of natural disasters in whatever way possible. Let us rise to the occasion yet again," he appealed and to lead from the front he personally contributed from his own means for immediate relief of the villagers.
Khandu was supposed to visit the village with MoS Home, Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday but had to cancel it due to inclement weather conditions.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister reiterated his grave concern on repeated fire mishaps reported from across the state and especially in West Siang district. He called for a proper study on the causes and ways to prevent such occurrences besides creating awareness and sensitizing villagers on prevention of fire mishaps.
Donations are pouring in from various organizations and government departments to provide succour to the fire victims of Tadin village.
All Aalo Auto Union and Aalo division of RWD donated Rs.10,000 and Rs. 12000 respectively to the fire victims on Wednesday.
A team of officials from District Legal Service Authority led by Hirendra Kashyap, Member Secretary cum CJM visited the fire victims and assured them all possible help in getting their damaged documents. They also assured to provide any kind of legal aid to the victims. DIPRO
Rebia visits permanent College campus
DOIMUKH, Aug 2: Minister for Urban Development, Land Management Nabam Rebia on Wednesday visited the permanent campus of Govt College Doimukh at Midpu to take stock of college and its infrastructural developments. The college recently shifted to its permanent campus.
Rebia along with Deputy Commissioner Tai Kaye, SDO Doimukh Ibom Tao, ZPM Tana Yaho, Principal Dr. N T Rikam, Executive Engineer PWD Division Nabam Tado and faculty members inspected the college and its infrastructures.
Taking serious note of slow pace of progress of construction of college building, Rebia directed the executing department and contractor to start the construction work immediately on war footing and ensure that it is completed on given time period. He also directed the Executive Engineer PWD Division Doimukh to start the road widening work of approach road of the college which is in a very dilapidated condition.

Orgs visit grief stricken parents
AALO, Aug 2: A team of women led by West Siang unit of APWWS President Marbom Bagra and Galo Ane President Jumken Doji Ete visited the grief stricken parents of late Migyir Lomi at Kabu village.
Migyir was gruesomely murdered in her rented house at Lekhi village on July 30.
The team demanded early arrest of the murderer. They also demanded stringent punishment for the culprits under appropriate sections of law.
The Galo Peoples' Front (GPF) expressed shock over the ghastly incident and appealed to the law enforcing authority to expedite the investigation process and gather all evidences it can.
GPF exuded confidence that Capital Police would soon find a breakthrough in the case and apprehend the culprit.
GPF also appealed to the State Government to provide immediate relief to the fire victims of Tadin Village and recent flood affected people near Aalo town.
Modify customary laws as per needs of the time: DC
AALO, Aug 2: 'Customary laws need to be modified as per needs of the time', said Siang Deputy Commissioner, Gamli Padu after releasing the 4th Edition of Bogum Boka, a Galo Customary Law Book during a function held here at Gumin Kiin on Tuesday last.
He also stressed the need for generating awareness among the GBs on modified laws through meetings and conventions from time to time.

Three suspended for photo leakage
ITANAGAR, Aug 2: Three IRBN personnel, attached with Itanagar Police station have been suspended for allegedly leaking the pictures of sex workers who were apprehended recently by Itanagar Police.
SP Capital Dr. A Koan said that three security personnel who were identified in connection with the leakage of the photos have been put under suspension on Tuesday. Departmental enquiry has been started against them.

ITANAGAR, Aug 2: The District Administration Capital Complex has intensified checking of bars, restaurants and wine shops. A team led by EAC Naharlagun Hento Karga along with the officials from the Tax and Excise Department and the Police yesterday sealed Hangout Bar as it was found to be running without license. The team also sealed Cocktail bar which was found to be selling IMFL beyond the permitted time.
The Deputy Commissioner Capital Complex Prince Dhawan sought the cooperation of the public and appealed them to abide by the rules so that such exercises could be successfully implemented. Stop venturing into river: DC
YINGKIKONG, Aug 2: Upper Siang Deputy Commissioner, Remo Kamki has issued an order discouraging the general public from venturing into the river or stream for fishing, bathing and rafting during the monsoons.
Parents have also been advised to discourage their children from taking bath in the river.
The order came following the death of three students of JNV Geku who were swept away by turbulent current in the Siang River recently. (DIPRO)

ITANAGAR, Aug 2: A total of 35 applicants were called for the interview for the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Swalamban Yojona Scheme held at the office of the DC Prince Dhawan here on Wednesday. The DC and other members of the District Level Screening Committee, administrative officers, bank officials and officials from NABARD conducted the interview.
Out of the 35, six applicants were recommended to the State Level Screening Committee while seven applicants were asked to rework their proposal in coordination with the nodal officer and resubmit.

A lesson for home department
In a highly controversial act the photographs of sex workers who were recently arrested from various hotels of Itanagar was leaked to the public. The circulation of photographs in social media forums like Facebook, Whatsapp is highly condemnable and it has shocked the whole state. Apparently the photographs were leaked to the public by three police jawans and since then all of them have been arrested by Itanagar police. The police need to take strict action against such erring officials. This incident is an eye opener for the home department and it exposes the lack of training to the jawans.
Majority of police personnel especially jawans are not properly trained in dealing with human right issue. Also the concept of right to privacy and IT act is alien to most of them. Police officials especially constables live and work in abysmal conditions. They are often exhausted and demoralized, always on call, working long hours without shifts and necessary equipment. Apart from physical and weapon training that is imparted to them at the time of joining police force they are not given any other training. Due to this jawans especially those hailing from IRBn are often accused of violating human rights. State government in particularly home department should conduct refresher course for the police constables. They need to be trained on how to deal with sensitive cases. Police should be responsible towards their duty. Leaking of information from their side can hamper the progress of case.

Dear Editor,
There is a lot of hue and cry over regularization of SSA teachers and everybody seems to be worried about their future which is a justified matter. Nobody cares to think about a small number of the SSA employees who stay away from media limelight. They are blissfully overlooked by all sections of society. They are equally qualified, equally shares the burden of envisioning the scheme of SSA materialized since inception of the SSA.
In the State, from Peon to Office Assistant, Data Entry Operator, Junior Engineer and Accountant all have equal share of success of SSA Mission like the teaching fraternity in the State. Yet, sadly they are least noticed. They are underpaid, run from pillar to post to meet up deadlines given by authorities working extra hours and putting extra efforts to shape the SSA. Unfortunately, they are least cared for and nobody is thinking about their future.
When SSA teachers are demanding regularization, even some of them are already regularized, is not it time to think for the Office Staff of SSA who are equally toiling and uncertain about their future? The Office Staff who entered in to the job at the beginning like SSA teachers have sacrificed their age, youth and agility for the sake of SSA.
It is high time for people at the Upper rung of society to sympathize with this section of employees so far unnoticed by all.

Misusing Internet
Dear Editor,
As we are living in the advanced technology era, without internet there is no other option because all the works are done "online” right from applying for a government job to banking and shopping.
Internet has made everything easy and fast but at what cost?
These days in every individual’s hand, there is a 4G connected smart phone hand set. Due to this, many are deprived from the nature, family, relatives and friend. Children ask for smart phones in the name of education purpose but maximum of them are wasting time in social media and indulging in pornographies and many have became victims of many social evils.
Many marital relationships are being broken due to internet as many are having extra marital relationships; many of our youngsters are experiencing premarital sex and teen pregnancies. So which direction is our society going?
With regular education, we need strong moral education for our young generation and family counselling centres. So I appeal to our state Govt and NGOs to stand together and work for the right and better usage of internet.
